‘Should I stay, or should I go now?’
‘Should I stay or should I go now?’, is probably the most common phrase I hear from burnt-out jobholders desperate to do something closer to their hearts.
I have been there myself, & understand how scary it is taking the plunge…but how rewarding it can be further down the line.
I was lucky enough to find a career change coach to support me in making the leap. But it did cross my mind at the time: ‘How is this going to be different from a career adviser?’ (Cue flashback to schooldays, & a blank-faced 14-year-old, with practically no life experience, being asked what jobs might interest him!)
What I needed – now as I did then – was a deeper understanding of my motivations: how to test out idle dreams that wouldn’t go away, work out steps to get closer to a best-fit job, even if I had yet to figure out what it was.
I needed clarity around what I really wanted, a strategy involving the next decisions I needed to take. Further, down the line, I might need ideas on how to write a ‘punchier’ CV, with interview preparation, and help in negotiating my salary and terms and conditions.
That was the role of my career coach – now I do the same for others.
It would be easy for me to pronounce: ‘NOW is the best time to make a career change!!’
But the economic upheaval created by Brexit, COVID & supply chain instability has opened doors for a wider range of career opportunities. It’s a job seekers’ market – you can call the shots like never before.
So, if you want…
- To have a clear job searching plan of the next steps to take in landing your next role…
- To know that all bases have been covered so the next career move will be your best fit…
- To know that, if applying or negotiating on a job offer, or planning to start a business, you feel fully prepared – CVs, interview techniques, passing selection tests…
- To have a job with more purposeful work that aligns with your values but still pays well (they do exist!) …
- To justify to yourself & others that the next career choice makes perfect sense.
or even…
- To just gain a bit more knowledge of what’s out there without having to commit.
